History of
the world in 100 modern objects -Middle class stuff and nonsense
By Francesca

Now let's be
100% clear this book will not give you a history of the objects featured, No
this book is a hilarious series of stories poking fun and pinpointing social
tribes and people's aspiration by the objects that they buy.
The book is
split into vignettes featuring a recognisable object and the character that
owns them such as Izzy 26 who interns at Kelly hoppen and gets into a spat with
her flat mate over a twee Oliver Bonas cake stand, Tara 36 a senior partner at
a corporate law firm who is seen by her boss wearing her baby on board badge
before making her announcement, lee 32 a kettle bell class instructor who helps
lucie with her “glutes” but has also been texting Chantelle.
One of my
favourite parts of the book is that some of the stories are interlinked Miss
Davies the teacher in ‘Gemstone iPhone cover’ gets her own say in ‘ E-Vape’ and
Matt in ‘corner sofa’ is the ex who dumped Kate in ‘extra large wine glasses’.
Funny,
charming and poignant this book has become one of my favourites. My husband and
I now have a little giggle to ourselves when we see one of the objects featured
when we're out and about. A really light
and easy read, you never know you may end up recognising a few social tribes
yourself.
